During the Second World War, several dozen Allied, German, and Dutch aircraft crashed in and around the Haarlemmermeer. The history of these crashes is housed in this unique museum, the CRASH Luchtoorlog- en Verzetsmuseum ’40-’45 (CRASH Air War and Resistance Museum '40-'45) located in Aalsmeerderbrug in a fort of the Stelling van Amsterdam.
The museum contains a unique collection of objects and documentation about World War II, especially the air war over the Netherlands and the resistance. There are several permanent exhibitions on view about the air war, resistance, and hiding. In addition, there are temporary exhibitions on various topics. There is also a radio room where regular worldwide contact is made with old transceiver receivers from World War II.
The Crash Research in Aviation Society Holland foundation manages the museum, which highlights the results of over 30 years of research into the air war above the Haarlemmermeer and beyond. This collection is displayed in several halls, each with a different main theme.
