The Nieuwe Oosterbegraafplaats (New Eastern Cemetery) is a cemetery located on Kruislaan in the Watergraafsmeer district of Amsterdam-East. It covers an extensive area of 33 hectares and opened on May 1, 1894. Today, it is commonly referred to as De Nieuwe Ooster, primarily due to the construction of a crematorium in 1994, designed by R. van Liesveld. This cemetery replaced the (Old) Ooster Cemetery, which was established in 1866 and was located just outside the Muiderpoort.
