Bunker Museum Jansje Schong

Everyone knows them — the dozens of remnants of former Atlantikwall structures in the dunes and along the coast. Sometimes they’re large complexes that stand out in the landscape and dominate the immediate surroundings. In other cases, they’re small structures, overgrown and mostly filled with sand, hidden deep in the forest, with hardly anyone suspecting they’re even there. Before long, they’ll be completely buried in the sand, just like so many bunkers already have been.

The fact that these bunkers were part of the so-called Stützpunktgruppe Castricum — a complex of defensive positions that was intended to play a key role in the event of an Allied invasion — is something few people know. The Stützpunktgruppe Castricum covered the coastal area from Wijk aan Zee to Egmond aan Zee.

The Egmond ’40-’45 Foundation is committed to managing and preserving these defensive structures.
