The 'Razzia in Bedum' monument stands as a solemn reminder to the people of Bedum of the raid conducted by the occupiers on April 25, 1944, in this village.
During this raid, 46 young men, aged 18 to 26, were apprehended. This action was a retaliatory measure by the occupiers in response to the attack on April 22, 1944, on Sub-Lieutenant Keijer of the State Police at Bedum's train station. The razzia was not limited to Bedum alone; it extended to other North Groningen villages such as Zuidwolde, Middelstum, and Winsum. The young men from Bedum, forcefully taken from their homes or arrested on the streets, were gathered at the former Hotel Krijthe.
Today, the location of the former Hotel Krijthe is occupied by the Fortisbank office, where the plaque commemorating these events is prominently displayed on the building's wall.

ON APRIL 25, 1944,
FROM THIS SPOT, A GROUP OF
YOUNG MEN AGED
18 TO 26, WERE TAKEN AS HOSTAGES
AND TRANSPORTED TO THE CONCENTRATION CAMP
