Gedenkraam in het gemeentehuis, Bedum

The Gedenkraam in het gemeentehuis (Memorial window) in Bedum's town hall is a reminder of the Second World War and the triumph over the occupiers. It honors the memory of 46 fellow citizens who perished during that period.

The memorial window symbolically depicts the misery of the occupation and the joy of liberation. The left window represents the occupation with the black German eagle, standing with a raised sword over the chained Dutch lion. In front of the town hall of Bedum, there is a raid truck. A prisoner is being brought to this truck under the eyes of powerless citizens. The right window is the liberation window. A triumphant, rearing horse tramples the swastika. The eagle has been defeated and lies powerless on the ground. Behind the horse, a tank is visible. In the top left, the liberating Orange sun rises above the tower of the Reformed church. In the top right, a still-burning house represents the suffering caused by the war.

The memorial window is located in the town hall, situated at Schoolstraat in Bedum.
