The Streekmuseum Maaskant ‘44 (Regional Museum Maaskant '44) depicts the history of the Western Mining Region in Limburg, and particularly the Maaskant area (from Maastricht to Roermond), with a focus on regional wartime history.
In major museums, you mainly see anonymous tanks and various artillery pieces, but in the watermill, each individual object has its own intimate story, making the museum unique in the region.
In addition to the extensive collection on World War II, there is also a section dedicated to World War I, items related to the forgotten war in the Dutch East Indies, and the UN peacekeeping missions that the Netherlands participated in after WWII. Additionally, there is a substantial collection of objects from the regional Roman past.
