Fort Kijkduin, Huisduinen

Fort Kijkduin, (fortress kijkduin) situated in the village of Huisduinen near Den Helder in North Holland, is a historical fort housing a North Sea aquarium and museum.

Within the museum, you'll embark on a journey through the fort's rich history. The surroundings of Fort Kijkduin have witnessed significant events that have played a crucial role in Dutch history. Step into the past and experience the intensity of the Battle of Groote Keeten or immerse yourself in the invasion of the Batavian Republic by the English army in 1799. Join Napoleon on his historic path and explore the ever-evolving story of Fort Kijkduin, including its role in the Second World War.

As you conclude your visit to the museum, you'll traverse the "holle beer" (connecting passage) and find yourself in the shooting gallery. Outside, explore the powder magazine, and from one of the bastions, enter a lengthy underground tunnel. This marks the beginning of the bunker route, a short stroll through the picturesque dune landscape of the fort. The bunkers, dating back to the interwar period, are of experimental design, and you're welcome to explore their interiors.
