Bunkermuseum, Zoutelande

Bunker Museum Zoutelande is situated within a bunker complex in the coastal town of Zoutelande in Zeeland.

This complex played a significant role in the Atlantic Wall defense system during World War II. Visitors can explore two bunkers from the Stützpunkt Lohengrin complex, which are approximately 200 meters apart. These bunkers boast walls and roofs constructed with 2-meter-thick concrete. Another bunker complex in Zoutelande is named after a different opera by Richard Wagner and is known as Stützpunkt Meistersinger.

Bunker 1

Bunker 1 is a type 502 bunker (Regelbau 502) that served as accommodations for twenty men and housed the communication center.

Bunker 2

Bunker 2, located in one of the highest dunes in the Netherlands, was built in either 1942 or 1943. It served as an observation post of type 143 and featured an armored lookout dome with a periscope. The bunker had a clear view of the Westerschelde. When the enemy was sighted, coastal batteries would open fire, but in case of an enemy landing, observations could be relayed to field artillery batteries positioned behind the dunes via radio or telephone.
