Airborne Museum at Hartenstein is a museum in Oosterbeek near Arnhem, dedicated to the Battle of Arnhem in September 1944.
The museum, located in the former headquarters of the British forces during the battle, houses an extensive collection of weapons, clothing, equipment, interviews, photos, and videos. In addition to its exhibited collection, the museum features the award-winning Airborne Experience. In this underground space, visitors can step into the shoes of a soldier. At the Arnhem Rijnkade, opposite the John Frost Bridge, the museum also operates an information center, Airborne at the Bridge, focused on the Battle of Arnhem.
The museum does not only present the Allied perspective but also sheds light on the German side and the experiences of the local civilian population. It aims to emphasize that freedom is never to be taken for granted.
The Airborne Museum was completely renovated in 2020 and is actively involved in a series of events commemorating the Battle of Arnhem. Situated near the Airborne War Cemetery, the museum serves as a meeting place for veterans and those who honor the battle’s history.
