Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum

The Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum sits at 600 Interstate 30 East in Greenville, Texas, in Hunt County—the very place where Audie Murphy was born and raised. Established in 1987, the museum highlights Hunt County’s deep-rooted history with cotton, once the region’s most important cash crop. A special “History of Cotton” exhibit showcases how the industry shaped the local economy in the early 20th century.

While cotton is a key part of the museum, its main focus is on military veterans, with a strong emphasis on Audie Murphy himself. In 2004, the Hunt County War Memorial was added to the museum grounds, featuring a 10-foot bronze statue of Murphy, sculpted by Greenville artist Gordon Thomas. Surrounding the monument, granite stones bear the names of Hunt County's fallen soldiers, along with quotes from Murphy, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Ronald Reagan.

The museum’s collection expanded in 2012, when the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio donated its collection of Murphy memorabilia for permanent display. Every year, the museum also hosts Audie Murphy Days, a special event held in June to honor the legendary war hero and Hollywood star.
