The museum focuses on the history of aviation and the events during World War II on and around the island of Texel. There is a lot to see about the history of the Texel airfield and its special relationship with KLM, the Marine Air Base 'De Mok,' the air war, and the bunkers of the Atlantic Wall. An important part of the museum is dedicated to the "Georgian Uprising," also known colloquially as the 'Russian War.' This uprising of Georgian soldiers who served in the Wehrmacht and were stationed on the island was aimed against the German occupation. The uprising began on the night of April 5 to 6, 1945, and only ended on May 20, 1945, when the Canadian army arrived on Texel, more than two weeks after the end of World War II in the Netherlands. Texel is sometimes referred to as "the last battlefield in Western Europe."
