Sky of Hope W02 & Vliegeniersmuseum

On May 10, 2017, Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven inaugurated the Sky of Hope WW2 and Aviators Museum located in Fort Vuren. The museum presents the events that unfolded during World War II in the Rivierenland region through visual and auditory exhibits, with a particular emphasis on the aerial warfare. In addition to showcasing films, photographs, and documents, the museum offers a glimpse of numerous personal belongings belonging to Allied aviators. Among these items are the flight log of British pilot Basil Scarff, the Purple Heart awarded to the American airman Robert Martin, who tragically perished near Fort Vuren, and the uniform jacket of New Zealand pilot Jack Lunn, who met his fate near Heukelum. The museum also features aircraft components discovered at various locations and generously donated to the museum, along with authentic documents and medals of resistance fighters, as well as personal items belonging to civilian casualties. Furthermore, visitors can enjoy several film clips.

Through these personal artifacts and visual narratives, the museum brings these courageous individuals to life, giving them a face and sharing their compelling stories!

Admission to the museum is free, although contributions to the donation box are highly appreciated.
