This film is inspired by the remarkable true story of Walter Süskind (1906 - 1945), a German Jew who played a pivotal role in rescuing approximately 600 Jewish children from the horrors of the Holocaust. Working in collaboration with Henriette Henriques Pimentel, Felix Halverstad, and Johan van Huls, Süskind orchestrated the gathering of unregistered children in Amsterdam and skillfully facilitated their covert escape. Thanks to their efforts, around 600 children were spared from the atrocities of the Holocaust.
Tragically, in 1944, Walter Süskind, along with his wife and daughter, was sent to the Westerbork transit camp. Heartbreakingly, all three met their untimely demise: his wife and daughter in a concentration camp, and Walter Süskind himself during a brutal death march. Their courageous actions and ultimate sacrifices stand as a testament to the unwavering human spirit in the face of unimaginable adversity.
