During WWII in Western Germany, Private David Manning finds himself facing a heart-wrenching decision as he leaves behind a gravely wounded comrade in his search for survivors from his platoon. Regrettably, he discovers from commanding officer Captain Pritchett that all his fellow soldiers have tragically perished in the line of duty.
Despite his earnest plea for a discharge due to mental distress, Manning's circumstances take an unexpected turn. He is promoted to the rank of sergeant and tasked with leading a fresh platoon of young recruits, embarking on a new chapter in his wartime journey.
