In pre-World War II Netherlands, a young man named Waldemar from Suriname crosses paths with Rika, a middle-aged Dutch woman, and love blossoms between them. Despite profound differences – one Black, the other white, with a 17-year age gap, and Rika already a mother of four from a previous relationship – their affection for each other runs deep. When Rika becomes pregnant with Waldemar's child, they make a bold choice to be together, fully aware of the sacrifices they'll need to make.
