Notorious (1946)

Following the sentencing of Alicia Huberman's father to twenty years in prison for his Nazi connections, government agent T.R. Devlin recruits her to infiltrate and monitor her father's associates in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Alicia, initially resistant, refuses to become an informant. However, Devlin, recognizing her lack of sympathy for the Nazis, appeals to her sense of patriotism. After their arrival in Rio de Janeiro, Alicia encounters Alexander Sebastian, the leader of the local pro-Nazi group and a former lover. Alicia and Devlin are now in love, and Devlin is unhappy when their superior, Paul Preston, suggests that Alicia should accept Sebastian's sudden marriage proposal. Nevertheless, after their wedding, Sebastian discovers Alicia's true identity as an American agent, realizing the severe jeopardy this presents to their plans and the potential consequences from his fellow conspirators for marrying a spy.
