Set in May 1943 at a US Army Air Corps base in England, the story revolves around the Memphis Belle, a B-17 bomber named after its stern captain's girlfriend. With a record of completing twenty-four successful missions, the crew is set to embark on their twenty-fifth and final mission, hoping to be the first B-17 crew to complete their tour.
Their imminent accomplishment catches the attention of communications officer Lt. Col. Bruce Derringer, who plans to use it for positive publicity during a time of limited good news. However, this idea clashes with the base commander Col. Craig Harriman's preference to treat the crew like any other. As the crew prepares for their risky mission over Bremen, Germany, their diverse personalities and backgrounds come to the fore, and each member holds differing opinions about Derringer's publicity campaign and the mission's outcome.
Amidst these tensions, the film explores their individual perspectives and the challenges they face, highlighting the disparities within the group and the gravity of their final mission.
