Minister of the Army Anami leads the faction of military officers who advocate for continuing the fight, even if it means the potential sacrifice of every Japanese citizen. In contrast, Emperor Hirohito aligns himself with his civilian ministers in making the unprecedented request for Japan's peaceful surrender.
