In 1942, British inventor Dr. B.N. Wallis (portrayed by Sir Michael Redgrave) faces the challenge of devising a method to destroy the dams in the Ruhr valley. Successfully breaching these dams could cripple Germany's military production, particularly its steel production. Despite coming up with a breakthrough idea, he encounters difficulties in gaining official support from any government department. The film delves into the obstacles he faces as he strives to bring his innovative idea to fruition.
