Set in March 1945, as the Allies advance closer to Nazi Germany, a significant challenge presents itself for the American and British forces on the Western Front: the daunting task of crossing the Rhine River, a natural barrier to their invasion. The strategic obstacle intensifies as the Germans methodically destroy all Rhine bridges, save for one: the Remagen Bridge.
Heading towards this pivotal point is a US platoon led by battle-weary Lt. Hartman. Their progress is countered by the Germans, who dispatch Major Kreuger, a highly skilled infantry officer, to assume command of the bridge's defense and to ensure its destruction. The ensuing confrontation between these two opposing forces holds the potential to either expedite the war's conclusion or lead to a tragic escalation in casualties, altering the course of history.
