Lucie Aubrac (1997)

Based on Lucie Aubrac's autobiographical novel, this film portrays a couple's involvement in the French Resistance during World War II. Lucie and Raymond use their passion and wit to rescue Raymond from the clutches of the Gestapo multiple times. The movie explores their relationship and the heroism displayed by them and their comrades in the resistance. Historians continue to debate whether the Aubracs ultimately betrayed Jean Moulin ("Max"), the renowned Resistance leader, who later died without revealing information while in the custody of the infamous Gestapo officer Klaus Barbie, known as the "Butcher of Lyons."
