This is a story inspired by the life of Wilhelm Furtwangler, the renowned conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic during the controversial Nazi era. Furtwangler was one of the most celebrated conductors of the 1930s, often compared to Toscanini. However, after World War II, he came under investigation as part of the Allies' de-Nazification efforts. In the post-war chaos of bombed-out Berlin, the Allies gradually establish law, order, and justice in occupied Germany.
Assigned to the Furtwangler case, American Major Steve Arnold is tasked with gathering evidence and prosecuting him rigorously. Major Arnold, a tough and determined officer, embarks on an investigation into a world he knows little about. Orchestra members speak in Furtwangler's favor, citing his efforts to protect Jewish musicians within his orchestra. To the Germans, who deeply revere their musical heritage, Furtwangler is a near-deity. However, in Major Arnold's eyes, he is merely a deceitful and morally compromised Nazi.
