This biopic centers around the renowned British World War II aviator, Sir Douglas Bader. Joining the RAF in 1928, he exhibits remarkable flying skills that raise concerns among his superiors due to his daring maneuvers. In 1931, a serious crash results in the loss of both his legs above the knees. Following a prolonged period of recovery and learning to walk with prosthetic legs, he returns to flying school and successfully completes the program once again. Despite his resilience, the RAF prematurely retires him due to his perceived disability.

With the outbreak of World War II, Bader is reinstated and entrusted with leading a fighter squadron. He survives the intense Battle of Britain but is later shot down behind enemy lines in 1941, losing one of his prosthetic legs. Captured as a POW, he garners a reputation as a troublesome inmate due to his repeated escape attempts. Eventually transferred to Colditz, he remains there until the war concludes, showcasing his remarkable resilience and determination throughout the turbulent wartime years.
