Liberation of the city of Groningen

Images of the liberation of Groningen, which was liberated in bitter fighting from April 13th to 16th, 1945, by the Canadian 2nd Infantry Division supported by tanks from the Fort Garry Regiment of the 2nd Armoured Brigade. Prior to and during these battles, significant damage was inflicted on the buildings in the city center, where valuable properties were either partially or completely destroyed. While the fighting in the northern part of the city continues, residents of the central and southern areas are already beginning to restore order.
